Description C Bispham 2009-04-28 09:47:37 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I have g-p-m preferences set to never put the display to sleep and not dim when
idle. These settings are the same for both on AC and on battery. Everything was
fine. But after the upgrade to 2.26.1 the backlight on my (laptop) monitor
started turning off all the time and somewhat randomly. Sometimes after just a
second, usually after 30 seconds to 1 minute.

If I disable dpms (with: xset -dpms), this serves as a workaround for the
problem.

I'm running Arch64. Six other people have reported the
same problem on a thread I started in the Arch forums (see:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=70733).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Upgrade to g-p-m 2.26.1
2. Start laptop
3. Don't use keyboard or touchpad

Actual results:
Withing a couple seconds to one minute, the lcd backlight will power off, even though it's set not to.

Expected results:
Backlight to stay on.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

I noticed that the "Never" value seems to be the problem (both ac and battery), I mean... if I set the value to Never the screen goes blank after few minutes, but if I set it to something like 2 hours it seems to work good.
Comment 3 C Bispham 2009-04-29 00:27:26 UTC
I did have it set on the "never" value and am also finding that setting it to 2 hours and 1 minute (the next highest setting), for display sleep, solves the problem.

I am also using xorg-server 1.6.1-1
Comment 4 Michael Kanis 2009-05-14 09:34:28 UTC
I set it to something around 5 minutes and it goes off between "imediately" and up to 1 minute. If I set it to never, display stays on.

However a friend of mine (kulzer_AT_in_tum_de) sets it to never and the display turns off after a short while.

The same for me. I have set "put display to sleep" to never when on ac power
but it goes to sleep randomly after idle. From a few seconds up to 1 minute.
But when I set it to 10 minutes it seems to work.
