Last modified: 2012-03-23 09:49:08 UTC
Please describe the problem: After first screensaver showing and monitor sleeping, next time monitor's power newer off (endlessly ssaver running). Steps to reproduce: 1. Wait for ssaver starting 2. Wait for monitor going sleep 3. Wake up monitor 4. Wait for ssaver starting 5. Try to wait for monitor going sleep Actual results: Monitor must turns off Expected results: Monitor never turns off Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: Distributive: Up-to-date Arch Linux x86_64 Gnome: 2.26.1 Gnome-power-manager: 2.26.1
I can just confirm this. I think the original reporter means switching off the backlight doesn't works the second time, to be precise. I played around with various combinations of gnome-screensaver and gnome-power-manager, and came to the conclusion that gnome-screensaver screws up the inactivity timer. It doesn't happen when the inactivity timer in gnome-screen-saver is switched off. Meaning gnome-screen-saver is switched off. Maybe it's bad interaction of both and a bugreport has to be issued to gnome-screensaver too. This is confirmed by an other guy too. See downstream bugreport at: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=276408 Im using: gnome-power-manager-2.26.2 gnome-screensaver-2.26.1 gnome-light-2.26.2 on gentoo. uname -a: Linux lisabook 2.6.30-gentoo-r1 #9 SMP Fri Jul 3 01:52:48 CEST 2009 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 PU T7400 @ 2.16GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux on a macbook 2,1
This problem went away with patched xorg-server (> 1.6.3.901 in gentoo). I think this can be closed as "not gnome" as bug #586444 or bug #587748
