when i try to start malestrom i get a core in my home directory.
malestrom does not function at all.

Hmm, I don't know anything about a "malestrom" game.  Do you know
where this game came from?  If not, could you run 'rpm -qf
/usr/bin/Malestrom | rpm -qi' and see if there is any information
there, like a URL for Malestrom?

sorry, the game is called maelstrom - i spelled it wrong. it came
default with
my install of redhat 7.1 and it only worked once. after that, every
time i've
tried to launch the game it dumps core.

the maelstrom game is a port of the macintosh game of the same name. its
homepage (for mac) is http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/maelstrom/

it looks like the homepage for the linux version of the game is at
http://www.devolution.com/~slouken/Maelstrom

rpm -qf /usr/bin/Maelstrom returns "Maelstrom-3.0.1-11"
