Description Michael Knepher 2009-03-10 16:33:06 UTC
Trying to drag and drop files to a source (primarily digital audio players, since they are added at the bottom of the source list) fails when the source is too close to the bottom of the source pane. Similarly, trying to drag files to reorder the play queue or a playlist fails below a certain point in the playlist window pane. Adjusting the size of the window changes the size of the insensitive area (the smaller the window, the smaller the area), though there does seem to be an upper limit, based on brief investigation on my high-res desktop pc.

It's as though there is an invisible box covering the lower portion of the pane. I discovered it by collapsing source trees, and disabling the play queue plugin, causing the DAP source to move up in the pane. At a certain point, it was only sensitive at the top edge of the entry, and getting it to move higher caused it to behave as expected.

Workaround for source pane:
Collapse open source trees/disable source plugins (play queue, last.fm, etc.) until DAP source is above the insensitive area.

Workaround for playlist reordering:
Resizing the window seems to help, but I have been unable to determine a specific window height or width that eliminates the issue.

Interesting, so it's not just the sidebar. Do you happen to use any docked applications, e.g. Gnome Do? Or could you close all other applications to see if that makes a difference? Seems like something's interfering with Banshee.

Also, I have almost exactly the same workflow (I frequently drag items to my DAP and I have a lot of playlists/stations in my source list too), but I don't have this problem. Strange!

It's working fine for me, *but* I have been noticing a weird bug where anything in the bottom ~ 15% of my screen is screwed up in terms of the cursor/being able to interact with it with a mouse.

So: please move your Banshee window up to the top of the screen and make sure that doesn't magically make dnd work. If it does, then it's probably either gnome-do docky (which I have) or compiz (also have).

Gnome-do/docky does seem to be the culprit here. Setting it to autohide, or pushing the banshee window above the bottom third or so of the screen makes dnd work properly. It behaves the same under both compiz and metacity.

Ok, file with them, I believe on Launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/do
