Description Simone Tolotti 2009-03-09 14:18:10 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I'm testing Ubuntu Janty with NM 0.7.99 (0.7.1-RC3).
The connection for my usb 3G/HSDPA modem sometimes doesn't work.
I select the connection through nm-applet and it seems to start connecting but after few seconds I get the message that the network is disconnected.
I use the same configuration as in Intrepid w/ NM-0.7 where the connection works flawlessy every time I use it.

I've tried to restart NM with /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart and to unplug/replug the modem's usb cable, or to reboot the system and sometimes the connection works fine.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Click on nm-applet and select a GSM/3G network to start connection.
2. Wait few seconds while the connection seems to start
3. nm-applet says that the connection is closed.

Actual results:
The modem don't start the connection.

Expected results:
The modem connects to the net.

Does this happen every time?
Not every time.

Other information:
I have an Option Icon 1.8mb/s modem :
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 0af0:6600 Option GlobeTrotter 3G+ datacard

I use a tool switch the modem from usb-storage to modem called 'icon_switch' and I have udev rules the manage this tool.

Nm log of a successfully connection.

This happened after restarting NM daemon and unplugging/replugging the modem's usb cable.

Seems like a transient issue; in both cases the modem initialization times out but in the "success" case the modem responds after a suspend/resume.

Can you attach the output of "lshal" for your system?

I'm sorry for double posting the attachment but bugzilla was working bad in the last few days.

I did some tests and I can't connect with NM when rebooting or unplugging/replugging the device with the system turned on.
The only way I have to get it working is to shutdown the system and than boot up (no reboot or NM/Hal daemons restart).

Comment 7 Simone Tolotti 2009-03-23 15:50:10 UTC
Could it be related to this?
Sometimes after unplugging and re-plugging the modem I have double entry in nm-applet.

Installed this morning the updated package (0.7.1~rc3.2.gitb8fc83a7-0ubuntu1), seems to fix the bug.
Well done guys!
I mark the bug as fixed.
