Description Alexander Shopov 2009-02-10 05:55:02 UTC
Please describe the problem:
All occurrences of "Whether if" in translatable messages should become simply "Whether":

grep 'Whether if' mousetweaks.pot

"Whether if Alt must be pressed for the pointer to be captured while it's "
"Whether if Ctrl must be pressed for the pointer to be captured while it's "
"Whether if Shift must be pressed for the pointer to be captured while it's "
"Whether if the Alt key must be pressed with the mouse button set in "
"Whether if the Ctrl key must be pressed with the mouse button set in "
"Whether if the Shift key must be pressed with the mouse button set in "

Sounds good, but do you know if that would be correct grammar. These strings were just recently changed (by a non native speaker I think). If we change them again, it would be nice to be certain that they're correct.
Comment 2 Gora Mohanty 2009-02-10 06:46:59 UTC
The suggestion looks fine to me, and I am pretty much a native English speaker, though from India. Also, shouldn't all of them read, e.g., "the Alt key", rather than "Alt"? Thus, I would suggest:
"Whether the Alt key must be pressed for the pointer to be captured while it's "
"Whether the Ctrl key must be pressed for the pointer to be captured while it's "
"Whether the Shift key must be pressed for the pointer to be captured while it's "
"Whether the Alt key must be pressed with the mouse button set in "
"Whether the Ctrl key must be pressed with the mouse button set in "
"Whether the Shift key must be pressed with the mouse button set in "

+1 for Gora's proposal.
String Freeze on Monday.

I've committed Gora's proposal. Thanks everybody.
