GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 570801
Cannot paste files when connected to Ubuntu 8.04 client
Last modified: 2009-02-27 02:19:23 UTC
I am running vinagre 0.5.1 on Ubuntu 8.04 with all current patches. I connect to another Ubuntu 8.04 machine. I can right click and copy a file on the remote machine however, when I attempt to right click and paste the file to another location on the remote machine the paste option is grayed out. I can drag and drop the same file between two locations no problem. I can copy and paste the file in question if I access the machine locally or use tsclient 0.150 for the remote access. It appears that this issue only involves copying and pasting files. I can copy and paste text within gedit for example. I have confirmed this on 2 remote Ubuntu 8.04 machines. The problem does NOT occur when I access a remote Ubuntu 7.10 machine - I can copy and paste on the older version of Ubuntu. All 4 machines are plain vanilla installs of Ubuntu. No fancy configurations.
Hi. Please, try those steps with a newer version of GNOME. There were issues related to clipboard, fixed in GNOME 2.24 (Ubuntu 8.10). Better yet if you can try in a development version (GNOME 2.25, Ubuntu 9.04). Thanks, Wendell.
OK - here we go - this is a summary of all the configurations I can assemble and test... Local: Ubuntu 8.10 - vinagre 2.24.1 Remote: Ubuntu 8.04 - vino 2.22.2 Result: can copy and paste files on remote desktop Local: Ubuntu 8.0.4 - vinagre 0.5.1 Remote: Ubuntu 8.10 - vino 2.24.1 Result: can copy and paste files on remote desktop Local: Ubuntu 8.0.4 - vinagre 0.5.1 Remote: Ubuntu 8.04 - x11vnc 0.9.3.dfsg.1 (instead of vino) Result: can copy and paste files on remote desktop Local: Ubuntu 8.0.4 - vinagre 0.5.1 Remote: Ubuntu 7.10 - x11vnc 0.8.2-2 (instead of vino) Result: can copy and paste files on remote desktop (also worked before I changed the remote to x11vnc per my original report Local: Ubuntu 8.0.4 - vinagre 0.5.1 Remote: Ubuntu 8.04 - vino 2.22.2 Result: can copy and NOT paste files on remote desktop I do not have vinagre installed on the Ubuntu 7.10 machine - it is an old Pentium II and it is doing all it can to run GrabIt under Wine and leach binaries from Usenet :-) It looks like the issue is between vinagre 0.5.1 and vino 2.22.2 as all other combinations seem to work. Ubuntu 8.04 is a long term support version due to run through April 2011 so I hope one or the other of the components can get fixed. Please let me know if there is any other information which I can provide. Ken
OK, I must close this one as 'fixed' then. About the Ubuntu version, ask them to provide a newer vinagre version for hardy. (this is called backport)
