Description Emilio Pozuelo Monfort 2009-01-30 19:43:04 UTC
I don't think showing the notification are all the time is very useful, and it's probably not very HIG-ish.

I propose to merge it into a checkbox:

[ ] Show icon in the notification area when there's a connection.

(I guess the wording could be improved).

That would cover the use case of never displaying it, and only when there's a connection. We would loose the use case of displaying it all the time, but I can't imaging anyone doing that ;)

And the dialog would become even simpler.

My first question from reading that label is: "what icon?" Would it be possible to show the icon inside in the checkbox label itself? Something like

[ ] Show ※ icon when a computer is connected

(Incidentally, checkbox labels should not end with periods.)

I wouldn't like to loose the option of displaying it all the time. I find it very useful, letting the user know that his desktop is being shared.

That was my main use case when I first wrote the status icon patch :)
