Description Morten Welinder 2001-06-29 14:21:02 UTC
(Someone else came up with this, but it's too good not to record.)

When importing, all data is currently interpreted in the current
locale. Thus, if a file contains "200,100", the current locale
determines whether I get (roughly) 2e5 [US, for example] or 2e2 [DA, for
example].

It would be nice, if there was a way of selecting the locale of
the data during import.

Well it's quite annoying when working on text files you get from some
program's output. Of course making a CSV is the easiest way to go.
The problem with this bug is that its origin is not so plainly
apparent to someone that's not into programming... anyway it should be
quite straightforward to fix, as I said: just don't use locales when
importing CSV: they are all in international (US) format, for what I know.

"as I said: just don't use locales when importing CSV: they are all in
international (US) format, for what I know."

THis doesn't work. There are lots of csv files generated in other than
US format. (Even lots of canadian files switch the day/month ordering.)

Well in any case, you can now choose the locale the file is in. If it
is in US/English (C) or (en_US), just select it and you should be fine.

fixed in cvs (for text import from a file at least)
