GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 564810
Discharge time profile has no statistics
Last modified: 2012-03-23 09:40:19 UTC
Please describe the problem: In previous versions "discharge time profile" learns by using ac/dc alternatively, but does not appear to have learnt anything in this version. Steps to reproduce: 1. Unplug AC adapter 2. 3. Actual results: Power manager realises that we are now on battery, but gives no information about battery time remaining. Expected results: I expect to see data for discharge time Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: I am using Fedora 10 on an HP DV6746tx laptop with 2.6.27.7-134.fc10.i686 SMP kernel. dbus-1.2.8-1.fc10.i386 installed libnotify-0.4.4-12.fc10.i386 installed hal-0.5.12-12.20081027git.fc10.i386 installed

Further info which is probably related to the gnome-power-manager susbsystem is :- 1. On battery power the computer is meant to suspend when the lid is closed - this does not happen however. 2. If I select "suspend" from the icon's menu, suspend works as expected. 3. In addition to this the brightness of the screen has been set to dim when on battery power, but does not happen when the ac adapter is removed. However after a suspend and "unsuspend" this feature seems to work as expected. More info :- 1 When I put the cursor over the gnome-power-manager applet, it seems that the correct detaisl are displayed in the popup information box. For example, the box contains the following Computer is running on battery power Laptop battery 1 hour 10 minutes remaining (62.1%) Battery discharge time is estimated I should also add that I have been talking about the graphical display not displaying "estimated time remaining" when selecting "power history" after right clicking on the applet.
I am having this problem with gnome-power-statistics, under gnome-power-manager 2.26.0. Gnome-power-statistics seems to be unable to read the charge rate of the battery. Hence no graphs are given for charge history or statistics. Under the history tab, no graphs appear at all, just blank gray space. Under the statistics tab graphs appear, but the line remains flat, because there is no charge information to plot. Gnome-power-statistics also seems to be unable to read the design capacity of the battery. My system is Arch64. Kernel 2.6.29. dbus 1.2.4.4permissive-1 libnotify 0.4.5-1 hal 0.5.12git20090406.46dc48-2
It also might be worth noting that powertop and hardinfo are both able to read the charge rate of the battery, so it seems like gnome-power-statistics just isn't accessing the information for some reason.
More information: I discovered that the power history graphs and charge rate information, when running on battery, works correctly if I start my system up on battery. It is only if I start up on AC and then unplug the laptop that this problem arises. Another curious side issue. The Power Statistics window has a third section now called "Processor" that shows running processes and how many wakeups they cause, a la PowerTop. This only appears in the Power Statistics window if I start on AC and then unplug my laptop, not if I startup on battery. So it's the opposite phenomenon as with the charge information (charge rate only shows if startup on battery, not if startup on AC and then unplug; processor section only shows if startup on AC and then unplug, not if startup on battery).
By the way, I'm now running gnome-power-manager 2.26.1 and this bug remains present.
Hi, I've got exactly the same problem. It appears since ubuntu Intrepid, but was ok before. It remains on Jaunty.
In addition to my discovery that the power statistics only work if starting on battery, I've found that if I unplug my laptop, then suspend and resume it, the power statistics work.
The same bug is describe here and they propose a patch to fixe it >> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/302570
