GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 563972
"save as" sometimes shows garbage filename in overwrite file dialog
Last modified: 2008-12-11 10:53:02 UTC
Please describe the problem: This was reported at https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/306504: When trying to overwrite an existing file in Gedit, the dialog box which appears sometimes contains a garbage filename (screenshot: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/20343375/Screenshot.png) Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Gedit 2. Go to File -> Save As 3. Save empty file as "test" 4. Go back to File -> Save As (the existing file / folder name should be suggested in the Save As dialog. Don't navigate around, otherwise the bug is not repeatable) 5. After opening the Save As dialog, just click ok without changing anything. Actual results: A warning appears that the filename I've chosen already exists, and will be overwritten. Sometimes, the filename is not displayed correctly (as in the screenshot). Expected results: The filename should be displayed correctly. Does this happen every time? No Other information:
I can confirm this on Ubuntu 8.10 with gedit version 2.24.2. At "save as...", there are two unexpected responses I have seen upon typing in the name of an already existing file and pressing save: Either "A file named "x;\Uffffffff" already exists. Do you want to replace it?" where "x;\Uffffffff" are the same symbols as in the screen shot in the bug report. Another common response was: "A file named "" already exists. Do you want to replace it?" It seems from my testing that clicking on a file in the browsing window, and then click save works as it should. I have only experienced this when writing in the name of a file to overwrite, or when trying to overwrite a file with itself.
