Description FelipeDarder 2008-12-03 07:41:06 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When I run the totem media player it shows in fullscreen mode (and windowed at the same time), and it doesn't allow to quit the fullscreen mode (doubleclick does nothing and menues shows the fullscreen option in grey).
The only way to go back to the desktop it's by closing totem (it doesn't even work the Alt+Tab couse fullscreen takes place again).

After doing some research found that erasing the .config/totem/state.ini would 'fix' the problem. It worked for me but after a few days, totem does it again, and it's starting to became really annoing to erase files every week.

When using the bad "state.ini" file:
[State]
window_w=1152
window_h=864
show_sidebar=false
maximised=false
sidebar_w=872
sidebar_page=playlist

The console responds this:
** (totem:21321): CRITICAL **: bacon_video_widget_set_fullscreen: assertion `bvw != NULL' failed
Gtk-Message: (for origin information, set GTK_DEBUG): failed to retrieve property `GtkTreeView::odd-row-color' of type `GdkColor' from rc file value "((GString*) 0x1c65200)" of type `GString'

When I delete the file, the new state.ini says this:
[State]
window_w=650
window_h=514
show_sidebar=true
maximised=false
sidebar_w=343
sidebar_page=playlist

The console says nothing and the totem works perfect.

I'm using ubuntu 8.10, 2.6.27-10-generic, AMD64, VGA GeForce 7600 GS, Res 1152x864.

I guess that's all i can tell by now, and hope this information is useful.
Anything else, just ask.

Oh and thanks in advance :)

Steps to reproduce:
I'm really not sure how. It just happens after watching several movies and playing with the fullscreen mode till it gets broke :P

Actual results:

Expected results:

Does this happen every time?

How do you reproduce that state (without using the "broken" state.ini file)?
Which exact version of Totem are you using? Are you using metacity or compiz, and which version?

I can't explain the exact procedure to make totem start failing, in launchpad some people explain "how to" make totem to breake the state.ini, but i've tried their "tutorials" with no results. Also i recently noticed that sometimes firefox does the same, the difference of firefox is that by pressing twice the F11(fullscreen shotcut), it goes fullscreen and then windowed, working normally then.

So I guess this bug is not from totem anymore but as you've mentioned them it may be a compiz-metacity bug.

I'm gonna research more about it, i'll post if I find something new.
Meanwhile:
totem 2.24.3-0ubuntu1
metacity 1:2.24.0-0ubuntu1 (intrepid)
compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1

Thanks again, and anything else, just ask.
