When there's several subtitles to show at the same time (multiple characters talking at the same time, translation notes, etc) in a given frame totem/gstreamer will only show one. Trying with VLC, for example, will show all of them.

Indeed. Unlikely to be fixed any time soon, sorry. A sample file would still be appreciated though.
