Cheese just sets by default the best available resolution.
If your webcam driver advertises a resolution it doesn't actually support I don't actually see how it could be our fault.
Please report this issue to your driver (uvcvideo?) developers.
Keep us updated if you want!

Another thing.. I'm not an ubuntuforums user and I don't actually know what System76 is but could you please tell to that guy to report cheese issues to GNOME bugzilla? I don't really like to read people blaming us and seeing no bug report here... Feel free to point him to this bug, to cheese-list or directly to me.
