Description André Klapper 2008-11-01 21:45:30 UTC
#: ../src/brasero-burn-options.c:465
msgid "Number of copies "

is there a reason for the whitespace?

#: ../src/brasero-app.c:651
msgid "Brasero Disc Burning"
msgstr "Vypalovací software Brasero"

#: ../data/brasero.desktop.in.in.h:1
#: ../data/brasero-open-image.desktop.in.in.h:1
#: ../data/brasero-open-playlist.desktop.in.in.h:1
#: ../data/brasero-open-project.desktop.in.in.h:1
msgid "Brasero Disc Burner"
msgstr "Vypalovací software Brasero"

is there a reason to use two different strings?

#: ../data/brasero.schemas.in.h:8
msgid "Enable immed flag with cdrecord"

maybe set "immed" into "" ?

Any schema strings that are boolean:
http://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/DevGuidelines/Enclose%20literal%20values%20in%20double%20quotes

#: ../data/brasero.schemas.in.h:13
msgid ""
"Only used in conjunction with -immed flag with cdrecord. See immed_flag."
#: ../data/brasero.schemas.in.h:27
msgid "Used in conjunction with -immed flag with cdrecord"

can these be synced?

#: ../src/brasero-audio-disc.c:1160
msgid "the track is shorter than 6 seconds."

why not capitalized?

#: ../src/brasero-audio-disc.c:1378
#, c-format
msgid "Do you want to add a \"%s\" which is a video file?"

I don't get this. Since when do I say "a videoname.mpeg"?

#: ../src/brasero-audio-disc.c:1744 ../src/brasero-audio-disc.c:1769
#: ../src/brasero-video-tree-model.c:198
msgid "loading"

why not capitalized? Does this really have to be marked as translatable?

#: ../src/brasero-audio-disc.c:3689
msgid "it will be removed from the project."

Capitalize, please.

#: ../src/brasero-blank-dialog.c:222
msgid "Error Blanking:"

Is "Error blanking" a function name? Or was there an error while blanking? -> Translator comment

#: ../src/brasero-blank-dialog.c:268
msgid "the disc is ready for use."

Capitalize?

#: ../src/brasero-blank-dialog.c:367
msgid "_Blank"

Verb, noun? -> Translator comment

#: ../src/brasero-blank-dialog.c:399
msgid "_fast blanking"

Uargh... CAPITALIZE!!!

#: ../src/brasero-mime-filter.c:244
#, c-format
msgid "%s only"

Comment please.

#: ../src/brasero-playlist.c:837
msgid "an unknown error occured."

msgid "waiting"

#: ../src/brasero-utils.c:264
msgid "KiB"
#: ../src/brasero-progress.c:285
#, c-format
msgid "%i KiB"

could these (and MiB, GiB) be merged, if i look at the code...?

#: ../src/brasero-burn-dialog.c:519
#, c-format
msgid "The disc in \"%s\" is busy."

Discs themselves cannot be busy.

#: ../src/brasero-burn-dialog.c:722
msgid ""
"already burnt files will be invisible (though still readable).\n"
"Do you want to continue anyway?"

#: ../src/brasero-burn-dialog.c:734

"you might not be able to listen to them with stereos and CD-TEXT won't be "
"written.\n"
"Do you want to continue anyway?"

#: ../src/brasero-burn-dialog.c:746
msgid ""
"you might not be able to listen to it with stereos.\n"
"Do you want to continue anyway?"

Capitalization......
And can you please split "Do you want to continue anyway?" to a seperate string so it does not have to be retranslated all the time?

#: ../src/brasero-data-disc.c:230 ../src/brasero-sum-dialog.c:156
#: ../src/scsi-error.c:32
msgid "unknown error"

msgid "it doesn't exist at the specified location."

#: ../src/brasero-data-disc.c:1049
msgid "do you really want to replace it?"

#: ../src/brasero-data-disc.c:1051
msgid "_Don't replace"
In general: All these "Don't", "won't", "can't" aren't proper english.
In this case I'd rather use "Keep" instead of "Don't replace | Replace" - makes it clearer (with a translator comment)

"NOTE: such a file hierarchy is known to work on linux."

capitaliz...

verb or noun? comment

msgid "_Don't rename"
#: ../src/brasero-data-disc.c:1998 ../src/brasero-disc-option-dialog.c:366
msgid "_Rename"
"Don't" is ugly. And just negating is ugly to. Use buttons that speak, otherwise we can get back to the old Yes/No scheme from MS Windows.

#: ../src/brasero-disc-option-dialog.c:355
msgid "Should files be renamed to be windows-compatible?"

Windows

Verb or adjective? -> Translator comments. If both meanings are used, use context messages.

Never ever split sentences. Use "%s by %s" or whatever and explain in the comment...

Stopping here, having read half of the po file dated from 2008-10-12.
Comment 1 Luis Medinas 2008-11-02 03:06:04 UTC
Start fixing...
Comment 2 Philippe Rouquier 2008-11-03 13:16:07 UTC
Here is to keep an account of fixed strings. I think it's time to release 0.8.3.
So I took care of all the strings that need fixing but won't modified translation status.

#: ../src/brasero-app.c:651
msgid "Brasero Disc Burning"
msgstr "Vypalovací software Brasero"

#: ../data/brasero.desktop.in.in.h:1
#: ../data/brasero-open-image.desktop.in.in.h:1
#: ../data/brasero-open-playlist.desktop.in.in.h:1
#: ../data/brasero-open-project.desktop.in.in.h:1
msgid "Brasero Disc Burner"
msgstr "Vypalovací software Brasero"

is there a reason to use two different strings?

#: ../data/brasero.schemas.in.h:13
msgid ""
"Only used in conjunction with -immed flag with cdrecord. See immed_flag."
#: ../data/brasero.schemas.in.h:27
msgid "Used in conjunction with -immed flag with cdrecord"

can these be synced?

#: ../src/brasero-audio-disc.c:1744 ../src/brasero-audio-disc.c:1769
#: ../src/brasero-video-tree-model.c:198
msgid "loading"

why not capitalized? Does this really have to be marked as translatable?
NOTE: here In fact, they should have been "(loading ...)". I synced all strings about loading

#: ../src/brasero-blank-dialog.c:222
msgid "Error Blanking:"

Is "Error blanking" a function name? Or was there an error while blanking? ->
Translator comment
NOTE: this string shouldn't be considered fixed (It has two capital letters).
I added a comment though

#: ../src/brasero-blank-dialog.c:367
msgid "_Blank"

Verb, noun? -> Translator comment

#: ../src/brasero-mime-filter.c:244
#, c-format
msgid "%s only"

Comment please.

#: ../src/brasero-utils.c:264
msgid "KiB"
#: ../src/brasero-progress.c:285
#, c-format
msgid "%i KiB"

could these (and MiB, GiB) be merged, if i look at the code...?
Fixed and removed we use g_format_size_for_display () now

#: ../src/brasero-data-disc.c:1254
msgid "Import"

verb or noun? comment

#: ../src/brasero-project.c:210
msgid "E_mpty Project"
#: ../src/brasero-project.c:1493 ../src/brasero-project-manager.c:118
msgid "_Empty Project"

Verb or adjective? -> Translator comments. If both meanings are used, use
context messages.

Comment 3 Philippe Rouquier 2008-11-09 21:53:44 UTC
I fixed all remaining issues in trunk since 0.8.3 is out. I intend to review all strings (in particular CAPITALIZATION =)).

@Andre Klapper: Now, I know you must be busy with more important matters but once this work will be finished, would you accept to review it at least partially please? If so, I'd leave this bug opened to let you know when all has been done.
Comment 4 Philippe Rouquier 2008-11-18 20:05:18 UTC
OK, I think it's done now.

The number of strings is down by more than a 100.
I removed all technical messages
I capitalized what should be (buttons, titles, ...)
I have made sure every button has a mnemonics
I tried to add comments where they were needed

Thanks for pointing this bug out
Comment 5 Philippe Rouquier 2008-11-18 20:05:53 UTC
If someone could quickly review it please =)?
