Description Luca Bruno 2008-10-19 13:54:28 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Hello,
I was trying to get more information about layout switching but the Help button in the layout options closed the dialog.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open the keyboard preferences
2. Open the layout options
3. Click the Help button

Actual results:
The dialog is closed.

Expected results:
The documentation must be opened.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
The parent dialog help button works instead.

In 2.24 the dialog is not closed. But you're right - the Help button does not do anything. First, GDP should make a documentation for that panel - then, I'll be mostly happy to make that button show the docs. Would you file a bug against GDP please?
Comment 2 Luis Medinas 2009-01-14 01:16:04 UTC
Well i was able to have yelp running after clicking the help button just as described. So i can't reproduce this problem using svn trunk
Comment 3 Jens Granseuer 2009-01-15 17:55:52 UTC
That's pretty odd since we don't have any documentation to show...
Sergey, we should probably just remove the button until we have some docs.
Comment 4 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2009-01-15 21:17:52 UTC
Jens, it is not a problem to remove that button - but shouldn't we forward that request to GDP, so they would come up with something?
Comment 5 Jens Granseuer 2009-01-16 08:37:35 UTC
Yeah, we should. We shouldn't, however, hold our collective breaths. We just don't have enough documentation writers.
Comment 6 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2009-01-16 22:14:38 UTC
Removed the "visible" attribute, to save "our collective breaths". Reassigning to GDP.
Comment 7 Jens Granseuer 2009-01-17 12:52:08 UTC
Really reassigning to GDP.
Comment 8 Claude Paroz 2009-01-17 20:49:49 UTC
I see some content about layout options in User Guide, Configuring Your Desktop, Hardware, Keyboard Preferences, Keyboard Layout Options (<sect3 id="prefs-keyboard-layoutoptions">). Don't we speak about the same thing?
Comment 9 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2009-01-21 22:06:03 UTC
Well, on my Ubuntu the section is there. May be not 100% up-to-date, but still... Jens, do you see it? May be, we should just point to it?
Comment 10 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2009-01-21 22:08:50 UTC
The only thing is that UG is separate from g-c-c. It would be better to have that section in the g-c-c/help area, I guess. For a moment, help/config-kbd.xml is very short
Comment 11 Claude Paroz 2009-01-22 07:43:15 UTC
Help for g-c-c preference tools are integrated in the UG. g-c-c help is only a stub and contains:
For help on using preference tools, see the <ulink type=\"help\" url=\"ghelp:user-guide?prefs\">User Guide</ulink>.
AFAIK the config-*.xml files are obsolete.
Comment 12 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2009-02-06 23:33:29 UTC
I have a trivial fix for this bug, asked the release team for UI freeze breakage.
Comment 13 Sergey V. Udaltsov 2009-02-07 13:11:03 UTC
Committed a fix. Please check.
