GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 555282
opening archive on remote directory fails with "Operation not supported"
Last modified: 2008-10-10 08:42:37 UTC
This bug has been reported here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/263026 When trying to open an archive file that is located on a remote location (like a Samba share, or through SFTP+gvfs) file-roller gives the error message "Operation not supported". When started from command line, it prints "WARNING **: Failed to delete the local copy: Operation not supported". The file is not opened then. This happens in all cases (opening from Nautilus, manually running file-roller "smb://..." from command line, or running file-roller and using File->Open). The archive file itself is ok and reachable (I can copy it to the local disk with Nautilus and open it from there). I think this is a regression, because in Ubuntu Hardy, file-roller 2.22.3 can access remote files just fine. This was tested on latest Intrepid (alpha4 plus all updates), with file-roller 2.23.6-0ubuntu1 and 2.24.0-0ubuntu1, and with gvfs 0.99.5-0ubuntu1 and 1.0.1-0ubuntu1, inside Virtualbox.
This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
