Description Ruchir Brahmbhatt 2008-10-05 17:38:41 UTC
Evolution is great for the tasklist and I use it for managing my daily tasks. However due to inconvenient task tracking method, I can use it for only keeping tasks and not use effectively for tracking each task.
For example if I want to create task and track it properly then I have to do following steps:
1. Click New->Assigned Task(yes I always assign task to me)
2. Enter summary
3. Set start & due dates
4. Add description(generally I don't have to but sometimes necessary)
5. Now I need to add this task as started as well as give it a priority so I go to Options->Status Details
6. Then I set status "In progress" & set % completed.
7. Then set priority.
[OPTIONAL BUT USEFUL SOMETIMES]
8. Set web page.

Tedious, isn't it?
Now I need to track this newly added task. Suppose this a week long task and everyday there's some progress as well as some updates(which I would like to add in description). Now in this case, I need to repeat following steps:
1. Double click to open task.
2. Repeat steps 5 to 8 from above.

I think task window is not so big and there's room to add all tracking details on same window instead of adding new window for that purpose, making it more convenient and user friendly.

I'll attach a mockup.

Please avoid vague summaries
Comment 3 Ruchir Brahmbhatt 2008-10-06 09:07:06 UTC
Okay, I'll keep that in mind.
Comment 4 Ruchir Brahmbhatt 2009-09-07 13:37:46 UTC
I think 3.0 will be good target to implement this as for 2.28 it may not be possible.
Comment 5 André Klapper 2009-09-07 14:01:50 UTC
"May not be possible" is quite euphemistic. GNOME 2.27.x is under UI freeze.

On the one hand your proposal looks quite complex to me, on the other hand your criticism is valid.
If all this additionalstuff can be hidden/disabled I'd be fine with it.

However, lacking manpower this has a low priority. Patches always welcome.

I posted a bounty on this one; I can always dream. :)

The changes must be accepting into the upstream project and targeted to a release; the bug mus tbe changed to a status of RESOLVED -FIXED.
All the options in “Task Details” sub - sub window must be moved to the “Task” window, the Task window can be tabbed. But the subwindow must be gone.
The Options->Classification select must be moved out of the ring menu and into the dialog as a field.

Can this bug at least be moved from UNCONFIRMED to NEW? It is an enhancement request that has been mentioned at least a few times on the mailing list.
Comment 8 Matthew Barnes 2013-02-19 13:08:23 UTC
As you wish, not that it makes any difference. -> NEW

This is the screen shot. The patch affects only the task editor.
Comment 12 André Klapper 2013-06-14 15:46:37 UTC
Milan: Thanks. Have toggle options under the "View" menu been created for what was under "Options", e.g. displaying "Classification" and "Status Details"?

Are there plans to make that large "Test web link" button the same size as the dropdown elements (looks weird currently)?

No, those are not needed.

Matthew fixed this recently. https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/commit/?id=d2bf13d734424b12f3a92791624aa637b11c8500
