GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 554252
Dictionary should have favorites dictionaries
Last modified: 2021-06-10 11:22:51 UTC
Short description: There should be way to have just few dictionaries(2 for example) in list. Selecting them should be done with one-click, not double-click. Those few favourite dicts should always be cached - I don't want every time I run dict to click refresh button to load my two dictionaries. Here is full report: Here is my suggestion. I am using only two dictionaries: 1. Croatian-English Freedict dictionary 2. English-Croatian Freedict dictionary Users should be able to add their most used dict's to say "Favorite dictionaries" section(this would be great with right click on the dict and select "Add to Favorites"). "Favorite dictionaries" would be another choice from combo box(with Available dictionaries etc...) and from View menu option. Favorite dictionaries list would be Radio button list, so user do not need to double-click it or it should be normal list but one click on dictionary would select it. Of course, status bar always need to show which one is selected. Also it unnecessary and time wasting to always click on refresh when starting application to have a list of dictionaries listed in "Available dictionaries". This section should be cached in application. Although I am not saying that refresh button should be removed, so if somebody want to refresh list, he have a nice way. When exiting dict, last selected dictionary in "Favourite dictionaries" should be remembered, so when "Favorite dictionaries" is selected, last used dictionary is also selected. This is what's on my mind currently, sorry if I made it complicated. If someone have a better suggestion, idea, please post it! GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of gnome-dictionary, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-dictionary/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
