When hiding the contact list by clicking at the icon in the notification bar of Gnome and clicking there again to re-show it, the contact list allways is at the left side of the screen.
Remembering the previous position and size would be nice.

Other information:
I tested it with Ubuntu 8.04.

This is a bug of your WM. It works for me with ubuntu intrepid and metacity with compositor enabled.

This is a problem for many people; perhaps marnanel could help debug this?
