Description Ronan Jouchet 2008-09-23 11:20:00 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Hello,

Quite straightforward bug; everything is contained in the title.
Link to downstream LP bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/273531

Cheers,
Ronan

Steps to reproduce:
1. start the mouse configuration panel
2. select the "Touchpad" tab
3. try to use the keyboard shortcuts for "Help" (Alt+H) or "Close" (Alt+C).

Actual results:
Nothing.
More precisely, the shortcut seems to toggle the focused state of the buttons (color changes) instead of "clicking"

Expected results:
Opening the help browser, or closing the window

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Other information:
Ubuntu Intrepid alpha 6, up to date 2008/09/23
Kernel 2.6.27-4-generic
GNOME 2.24.0
gnome-control-center 1:2.23.90-0ubuntu12
Comment 1 Ronan Jouchet 2008-09-23 12:44:32 UTC
Cause:
- Alt+C is mapped on the "Enable mouse clicks with touchpad" element
- Alt+H is mapped on the "Enable horizontal scrolling" element
In this case, nothing works : hitting Alt+H won't either launch the help window, or enable horizontal scrolling.

So this is a bigger bug, that may affect various windows, depending on the localization of the shortcuts.

Isn't it a case that should be taken into account when "compiling" the UI definition files? The UI files parser shouldn't affect conflicting keyboard shortcuts exist for the same GTK element.
Comment 2 Jens Granseuer 2008-09-23 16:09:57 UTC
The UI library doesn't know which widgets you hide/remove/add, so while it's possible to check for conflicts there you can never be sure whether it really is a problem.

In this particular case, the touchpad tab doesn't even exist in the upstream version. This is a Ubuntu problem.
