Description Faris 2008-09-22 17:48:38 UTC
Please describe the problem:
its not possible to fast filter for a specific titel, singer or any information

Steps to reproduce:
1. you should have some imported songs in the browser
2. in the filter area try to search for any of these titles (for example: coldplay, what if...etc)

see the following screenshots:

1- http://lh6.ggpht.com/BugShooter.QA/SNfZKPIm_kI/AAAAAAAAABc/oE52HB-v7Cw/Step1.jpg

2-
http://lh3.ggpht.com/BugShooter.QA/SNfZKaiKf3I/AAAAAAAAABk/XNc36ArYnkQ/Step2.jpg

Actual results:
banshee is not able to find any results, most of the time no results found, although there are titles which should be found.

Expected results:
i should be able to get a result for the searched word if there is a suitable existing title

Does this happen every time?
yes, with some titles its happens always, with other is working fine, but most of the time its not working

I see you were case specific here (which shouldn't be necessary in general, by the way); does it work if you search for "clocks" (lowercase c)?
Comment 2 Faris 2008-09-22 20:15:18 UTC
the bug is also reproducible with "clocks" with lowercase c and "CLOCKS", and not only for this title, for most other titles, and the filtering is not woring at all for the artist name, what ever which artist i search for.

just for info i tried the same issue with an older Banshee version (0.13.2) and the filter working fine without problems on the older version.
Comment 4 Gabriel Burt 2008-09-24 20:03:19 UTC
Hrm, is there any output if you run banshee-1 --debug from the terminal and try searching again?

If not, can you attach your ~/.config/banshee-1/banshee.db file here so I can see what's wrong with it? (Alternatively you could e-mail it to me directly).

I reported the duplicate bug, I'm sorry I couldn't find this bug before it. But here's the output of banshee-1 --debug:

I did try to search using the "Filter Results" search bar, and I didn't get any matching results (though I should get it). I didn't seem to notice any output that came when I searched.

Should I try to empty my library and then try to "re-import" it? I do remember that when I was importing Banshee got stuck at "420 of 6xx". I ignored it, though I really don't know if that is significant.

Thanks!

It probably was, and that would definitely be a good thing to try. Can you post back and reopen the bug after trying that?
Comment 8 Umang 2008-09-28 08:01:40 UTC
I don't want to report this as a new bug, but it's getting stuck again. It's at 421 out of 693 and doesn't seem to want to go ahead. Last time I deleted the file that it was getting stuck on. Should I delete this also?

I don't know what to do....

Thanks

Umang

For the importing problem, I would definitely say to open a new bug; it could be a different cause causing the same behavior.

Faris, any update from you?

I'm a bit busy for the next few days. I'll report that problem and then come back next week.
Comment 11 Gabriel Burt 2008-10-04 02:04:53 UTC
OK, had another person with this problem in IRC. You can work around it by running this command from a terminal (eg GNOME Terminal):

sqlite3 ~/.config/banshee-1/banshee.db "update coreconfiguration set value='0' where key='MetadataVersion'"

This will trigger a Metadata Refresh (same as will be triggered when you upgrade from 1.x to 1.4 when it comes out). I want to make sure this doesn't affect users migrating from 0.13.2 to 1.4 before closing this bug, though.
Comment 12 Gabriel Burt 2008-10-06 15:19:44 UTC
OK, just verified that running trunk w/o a database in ~/.config/banshee-1/banshee.db properly migrates the <= 0.13.2 db and updates the metadata properly.
