GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 553078
error message when sshfs not installed could be better
Last modified: 2017-07-31 12:42:54 UTC
Originally opened on Launchpad: https://launchpad.net/bugs/183902 ----------- When setting up ssh syncing when sshfs is not installed there is a dialog that tells you to install sshfs and FUSE. On Ubuntu this could be made more specific, telling the user the exact package to install. It could also install it for them, but I guess that is a harder problem. It should also give the user all the instructions needed. I think a session restart may be needed to complete the process, but I am not sure yet. Thanks -- Indeed, the required steps are - install sshfs - add the user to the fuse group (Sytem->Administration->Users and Groups can do this). - Restart the session. It's a lot to put in to the dialog, but some pointers would help. Perhaps it could be put in to a help document and a reference put in the dialog instead. Thanks, James -----------
Yeah, this would be nice. It's possible that some parts of it could be solved with pacakgekit. The only difficulty is that it's a pain to write a bunch of distro-dependent code (which we already do, actually). And we could definitely improve the text of the error. Targetting for next cycle.
Not going to do this for 0.13.x. Targetting Future.
Reclassifying as enhancement, which is actually is IMHO.
