GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 550936
Minimize + close + taskbar doesnt work properly in KDE + sound.
Last modified: 2012-07-07 17:51:43 UTC
Hi! I'm using Debian lenny Linux with KDE 3.5.9. kernel 2.6.25-2-686 in a Pentium 4 procesor. I also have alsa sound I have tried 3 versions of empathy so far, the one that comes packaged with debbian lenny, then 2.23.90 and now 2.23.91 and I have the same problem which is that the close button from window nor the minimize button from window doesn't work properly. In the case of the close button it doesn't work. And about the tarkbar; the problem is that when you press the button close from the window; the window doesn't close and the window disappear from the taskbar. And when you press the button minimize; it doesnt make any effect in the taskbar. The way you can reproduce this bug is using empathy on kde. It happens always. The other thing is that I can not hear any sound wheter Im calling or receiving a call. Despite of this bugs; I really really love empathy!! It's the first time I can use jingle in Linux; and it's good to say that it is 100% good quality sound calls! Thank you very much!
I confirm that bug under to at least Kubuntu Hardy. When compiz is activated, however, the close button works. " Despite of this bugs; I really really love empathy!! It's the first time I can use jingle in Linux; and it's good to say that it is 100% good quality sound calls! Thank you very much! " +1 Laurent
Hernan & Laurent: Thanks for taking the time to report this bug! Empathy's released a few new versions since you experienced this bug. Could you take a look at the upgraded Empathy and see whether you still experience any of these issues? Thanks!
I confirm that the Empathy's (2.28.1.1) main windows still don't works properly on KDE4 under Ubuntu Karmic. It happens that the Empathy's windows is open but don't appears in the list when I use alt-tab to change windows. This is however no more systematic and not really annoying. This is not a priority in the development of Empathy. The 4 priority are -1. make the use of the keyring optional and allow the user to type his password each time if he wants ... as in *ALL* other programs (like "remember my password" in Firefox) 0. more explicit error messages 1. a button "configure sound" which launches pavucontrol 2. a test contact that repeat what one says in order to be sure that the sound and the microphone works. This contact has to send a default video in order to be able to check if the video chat works without having 2 computers with 2 webcams.
@Laurent: Are you using ubuntu's empathy package or the one from telepathy ppa? Ubuntu changed the way the main window is handled, so it won't be surprising that it's now broken.
@Xavier : Good guess ! I'm using the Ubuntu's package.
Reopening as the requested information has been provided.
In recent Empathy versions, there is no icon in the notification area for the contact list. I doubt this is an issue anymore.
