GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 549946
Error message of: Unable to mount location -- Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume
Last modified: 2009-09-14 14:08:57 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. Places > Computer 2. Double click an unmounted partition 3. Enter system password 3. error message arrives, but the volume is still mounted ok Stack trace: Other information:
This is a downstream bug from Ubuntu: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/256749
I'm not sure how to obtain a stack trace. No formal crash is taking place. This is very reproducible, so feel free to ask for more info.
The error message has gone away, but no nautilus window shows up when you mount the drive. You have to click again. I suspect that is deserving of a separate bug report.
I see this bug, as originally described, in Ubuntu 8.10. I think it can be reproduced on a live CD.
I've reopened this bug, because I have found a way to reproduce this bug every time. You need to follow the original instructions, with one change: at step 2, a password box pops up. Before you follow step 3, and enter your password, wait, till an additional single button box pops up, with a fairly generic message. Then enter your password, and the error message will appear, but the volume will still be mounted. If I could edit the original post, this is what I would add: 2b. After an authentication dialog pops up, wait for an additional popup with a generic message like: "Opening such and such volume" I'm hoping someone can confirm downstream on Ubuntu Intrepid. I also changed the Severity to minor since the drive still seems to mount fine.
I just noticed this when trying to mount a partition (ext3) which doesn't have read permissions on root of the partition except for root user. The partition gets mounted but the error dialog "Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume" is displayed, and it doesn't show up on the "Places" sidebar. Using Gnome 2.26.1 & Nautilus 2.26.2, Ubuntu Jaunty.
I think it went away.
