Description Andrew Conkling 2008-08-27 14:02:25 UTC
Playback uses about half of my CPU (1.86 GHz Pentium M, "half" according to `top`). It seems to be related to the visualization support added in SVN revision 4409 (http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/banshee?rev=4409&view=rev); I do not see the problem after rolling back to revision 4408.
Comment 1 Bertrand Lorentz 2008-08-27 19:21:29 UTC
I'm seeing the same thing : banshee 1.2.1 uses about 5% of my CPU while playing, whereas trunk goes up to 30%.

Using the new OpenVP visualization extension almost justifies this ;)
Comment 2 jws141 2008-08-27 21:53:39 UTC
Latest trunk uses between 12-15% of my CPU. Rollback to 4408 goes to back to normal 0-1% CPU usuage.

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
Comment 4 Gustavo Rahal 2008-11-13 12:46:19 UTC
I'm using version 1.4.1 in ubuntu intrepid and I get this same behavior

Pentium M 1.6 GHz
CPU usage when playing mp3 ranges from 25-30%
No mp3, 1% cpu usage

Comment 5 Omar 2009-01-29 20:20:43 UTC
I have this problem on OpenSuSe 11.1, Banshee 1.4.2
CPU 175% Core 2 Duo Laptop.
Let me know what other info you need to help fix this, I like Banshee, but on a laptop this kills the battery..

Cheers
Comment 6 Omar 2009-01-29 20:30:10 UTC
A restart of banshee fixed the problem, pls ignore the previous post..
Comment 7 Andrew Conkling 2009-01-29 20:57:21 UTC
Gustavo, Omar, almost certainly new issues as these were specifically about the visualization pipeline in the development version at the time of the report.

If either of you are still having this issue, could you please see http://banshee-project.org/contribute/file-bugs/ and file a new bug? Thanks for your help and sorry about the problem!
