Description Mario Vukelic 2008-08-25 14:41:23 UTC
Please describe the problem:
This bug happens for me with the Ubuntu version of the package and was first reported at Launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/+bug/224840

For me, brasero consistently fails to copy DVDs. I create these with a VHS/DVD recorder appliance, and so far the worked everywhere. The target media is single-layer scratch-proof DVD-R by TDK, which I then try to copy to DVD+R, using brasero. These DVDs play fine in my laptop. They usually contain around 4 gigs.

Brasero gives the wrong source DVD size after I click the "Copy CD/DVD" button on the startup window. The "CD/DVD copy options" dialog comes up and tells me that the source DVD has 24 MB of data.

I could upload an *.iso of such a DVD somewhere.

Does this happen every time?

I can read in your log that there is a problem indeed with track info retrieval. I'll fix that for 0.8.2.
Comment 4 Philippe Rouquier 2008-08-26 16:54:24 UTC
After all, I don't think the idea I first had on reading your log will fix the problem.

What is the nature of your source disc? Brasero returns a DVD-ROM but there is something fishy in the log. Since it tells it has 2 tracks but it only reads the first not the second as if it were a leadout.

I'd like you to do something for me please:
- run "brasero -g > log 2>&1" with your source disc inserted in your DVD burner not in the DVD reader to see if it changes anything
- also try to use SVN, I added additional debug strings that may help me.

And yes, if it's not too much trouble perhaps an iso could help.

Thanks.

Btw, after having a closer look at your screenshot, it doesn't look like it is 0.8.1 you have, or even 0.8.0 for that matter.
Comment 6 Mario Vukelic 2008-08-27 17:17:26 UTC
I'll get to the other stuff on the weekend, I just wanted to reply to comment #5:
That's because I took the screenshot from the Launchpad bug, which already was a bit older. I have since upgraded to Ubuntu Intrepid (alpha), where the bug still persists.

apt-cache policy brasero
brasero:
  Installed: 0.8.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.8.1-0ubuntu2

Thanks, now I really need the file log created with "brasero -g > log 2>&1" please.
Comment 9 Tobias Mueller 2009-03-11 22:13:04 UTC
Mario, could you please get us the information Philippe requested in comment #8 and reopen this bug then? Thanks in advance!

Requested Logfile

Since i am experiencing the same problem i'll add my logfile instead.
I wanted to copy a dvd (DVD-R) with around 1GB of Data on it (according to nautilus). However if i want to create an iso from it, it says in the dialog the disc contains only 24 MB of data.

Ubuntu 9.10 / Brasero 2.28.2

Just to clarify my problem...
I can add the (24 MB).iso file too if this is helpful.
Comment 12 Andrea Debortoli 2009-12-29 17:21:40 UTC
Hi all,
I'm facing the same problem here...brasero sees only 5MB content, while my DVD-R contains 1GB according to nautilus.
As already said creating an iso results in a 5MB file containing 1GB of data :-|

Fedora 12 fully updated (brasero 2.28.2).
I'd be happy doing something to help you solving this.

thanks
Andrea
