Description Leonardo Ferreira Fontenelle 2008-08-24 21:55:00 UTC
#: ../components/editor/gtkhtml-color-combo.c:746
msgid "State of the color combo"

What does it mean? Is it a 'state of the color' combination box? Is it a state of the 'color combination'?

By the way, this message should clarify what does 'state of the color' mean, but I still can't get it.
Comment 1 André Klapper 2008-09-09 19:18:33 UTC
I also just ran into these strings.

Matthew, you wrote that code, can you please add a translator comment at least?
Should this be marked for translation at all?
Comment 2 Matthew Barnes 2008-09-10 15:16:02 UTC
This is another blurb for a property named "state", whose type is a GtkhtmlColorState. A GtkhtmlColorState holds all the internal values for a GtkhtmlColorCombo. It can be shared across multiple GtkhtmlColorCombo instances to keep them all in sync (meaning the selected color, the palette of custom colors, the default color, etc.).

Maybe you can help me come up with a better blurb. Or should I just paste in the above as a translator comment?
Comment 3 Leonardo Ferreira Fontenelle 2008-09-10 15:34:47 UTC
I'm not a developer, but "State of the GtkhtmlColorCombo" would be easier for me to understand. Atl least I'd know (1) it's the state a type of combo box, not a combo box with a state of color; and (2) it's a widget property, so I know I won't understand it fully, but I can read the developer documentation or ask a Brazilian developer to translate it.

Translator comments and longer blurb

Ping :)

Would that be OK?
Comment 5 André Klapper 2009-01-03 21:04:47 UTC
Yes. Feel free to commit to svn trunk only (gnome-2-24 string frozen) :)
Comment 6 Matthew Barnes 2009-01-03 21:05:18 UTC
Looks fine.

More broadly, would it be any help to you if I marked translatable GObject property strings with a context string, like "gobject-property"?

GTK+ does something like this for its GObject properties, I believe.
Comment 7 Leonardo Ferreira Fontenelle 2009-01-03 22:53:58 UTC
Probably adding comments would be better.

Context should be used when the same message (string) should be translated in different ways in different situations.
Comment 8 Leonardo Ferreira Fontenelle 2009-03-27 14:20:29 UTC
What's the status of this bug fix?
Comment 9 Matthew Barnes 2009-03-28 01:46:12 UTC
Patch is marked committed, but current trunk still lacks translator comments.

Once 2.27 development begins, I think I'll just go through the code and -unmark- those strings. It's not worth the extra burden (and confusion) on translators. Those translations aren't exposed in the UI, only when editing the UI in Glade, so no one will ever see them except me and other developers who still poke at GtkHtml. And we all speak English.
Comment 10 Milan Crha 2010-04-02 16:34:32 UTC
I removed translation on these within bug #325121, thus I'm marking this as a duplicate of it.
