GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 549035
Problems upgrading Banshee library database from .13.2
Last modified: 2008-09-13 21:08:09 UTC
Because there doesn't seem to be an iTunes Importer for Banshee-1, I decided to build my library in Banshee .13.2. As far as I can tell there's no tool to import from an old Banshee installation, so I simply copied the banshee.db from the banshee folder to the banshee-1 folder. I fired up Banshee-1 and it ran a friendly little dialog telling me that it was upgrading the database. Sure enough, when the library loaded, all of the songs, playlists, and playcounts were there, but a few things are very wrong: -I have no idea what order the songs are arranged in. Clicking Title seems to arrange them by Album and clicking either Artist or Album take the songs back to the default, seemingly random arrangement. -the "Date Added" for all of the songs is "today" Is there a better way to do this, because surely I'm not the only person who wants to merge an old Banshee library with the new Banshee.
So I figured out what the "default, seemingly random arrangement" is. When I choose to arrange by Artist or Album (either ascending or descending) Banshee instead arranges the list by Track #, meaning every song without a Track # comes first followed by every song labeled Track 1, etc.
Surely someone else has had to deal with this. Another person mentioned this problem in the Ubuntu forums, but their solution was simply to delete their database and start over. Personally I obsess over things like playcounts too much to do that.
As far as I can tell so far, it looks like 1.3 fixes this. Good work developers.
