Description Yves-Alexis Perez 2008-08-22 12:42:50 UTC
Hi,

I have a problem with murrine 0.60 svn (HEAD), xfwm4, gtk 2.12 and compositing.

I already opened an xfwm bug on http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4309 but I'll re-add stuff here.

Basically, I use murrine engine on my laptop. When I plug a VGA screen and do xrandr --auto then xrandr --output VGA --right-of LVDS, no widget appear on the second screen. When I drag and drop stuff, they never show. But I use compositing on inactive windows and on moving windows. If I try with the xfce engine, it works, so I guess it's related to RGBA.

I have the same kind of behavior from time to time, at resume (without any external screen plugged in). All composited widget dont appear, for some reason. I guess it's a related issue.

I'm not sure how all component are involved, and where really the bug(s) lies, between xorg, intel driver, gtk, murrine and xfwm4, but I sure hope to find and resolve this. I'll try to rebuild stable murrine and see what that give.

Cheers,

Ok, for what it worth, the same bug happens using murrine 0.53

So should not be a bug of the engine. Try with Clearlooks or something else (default xfce theme).
Feel free to reopen the bug if that is happening only with murrine, anyway yhanks for taking the time to report this bug and please feel free to report any further bugs you find.

As I said, it works with the xfce engine.

Try with Clearlooks, could be a cairo bug (I don't think xfce is using cairo to draw the widgets)

Ok, it fails with clearlooks too, thanks for pointing that. What should I do know?

Since you are getting that bug with every cairo-based engine, could be a bug in cairo or your xorg drivers.
Please file a bugreport to cairo's bugzilla or xorg drivers.
