Description Lionel Dricot 2008-08-11 08:12:39 UTC
I'm using a proxy with authentification configured in the gnome proxy settings.

Pidgin automatically use those settings and connect transparently to any XMPP server.

Empathy cannot connect so I suppose it cannot use the proxy/authentification.
Comment 1 Xavier Claessens 2008-08-11 08:22:54 UTC
Empathy (MissionControl in fact) is supposed to use GNOME proxy settings. I've no proxy myself so I can't test... Maybe related to bug #492076. Close as duplicate?
Comment 2 Lionel Dricot 2008-08-11 08:27:57 UTC
I'm not sure it's related. If I understand correctly, bug #492076 is about the fact that Empathy shouldn't use the proxy if it's http only. This bug is the opposite ;-)

(but if you believe you are the best person to know if it's a duplicate or not)

In fact, my issue is simple :

- Pidgin works perfectly without the need of doing anything because it uses Gnome proxy
- Psi works if I set manually the proxy/user/pass in its preference
- Empathy doesn't work
Comment 3 Xavier Claessens 2008-08-11 08:38:15 UTC
Ok, could be to have debug messages of gabble to know what's happening when it connects. See http://live.gnome.org/Empathy/Debugging

Gabble debug log

If the log is complete, it's pretty clear that Gabble receive the proxy, the proxy port but not the proxy user nor the proxy password.

Firefox gnome integration has the same problem.
Comment 5 Xavier Claessens 2008-08-11 09:10:34 UTC
It seems gabble does not support proxy user, that could be a gabble bug. I reported on gabble: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17073
Comment 6 Guillaume Desmottes 2009-03-20 11:12:28 UTC
Confirming this bug as, once Gabble would support such proxy, Empathy and/or MC will probably need some change to be able to use them.
Comment 7 Guillaume Desmottes 2009-11-30 15:29:07 UTC
Empathy basically doesn't support any kind of proxy atm. Closing this bug as a dup of bug #602824 for now. We'll reconsider specific case once we'll have generic proxy support working.
