GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 546835
New autohide behaviour annoying for the user
Last modified: 2008-10-07 20:37:39 UTC
Please describe the problem: NEWS file for version 2.23.6 shows: * Change behavior of struts for auto-hiding panels: the strut is live updated and matches what is shown of the panel. This means the size of a fullscreen window changes when the panel gets hidden/unhidden (Vincent) As a result of which I have follg problem: I have the panel only at the bottom (but probably works from the top too) with "autohide" enabled. Now I have several apps that I enlarge to nearly full screen: a few mm away from the top of the screen left free, but window stretching to the very bottom of the screen. When I move the cursor to the bottom end of the screen, the panel appears, but since today the window shifts to the top, and back when the panel autohides again. At first this is funny, but I'm sure in the long run it will be tiresome. Steps to reproduce: As above Actual results: As above Expected results: As with previous version: apps to not change their window size when the panel is hidden / unhidden. Does this happen every time? Yes Other information: This is for gnome-panel-2.23.6-1mdv2009.0.i586.rpm on Mandriva Linux Cooker.

Same thing happens with a panel on the top, by the way. I too found it rather interesting for the first ten seconds while I was watching my Nautilus desktop icons move around. Then I started Firefox.
I have this bug with latest Mandriva cooker 2009.0 https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=43102 still happens with package gnome-panel-2.23.91-1mdv2009.0 which is the currently latest version available http://sophie.zarb.org/rpm/cooker,x86_64/gnome-panel I hope the status can be changed to CONFIRMED ? :)
The same here with last Intrepid (Alpha 5). This was a weird "fix", it complete mess my desktop, some maximized windows take a long time (and CPU) for re-rendering when I unhide the panel.
This got fixed in 2.24.0.
