Description A. Walton 2008-07-29 22:05:14 UTC
From Launchpad:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/253110

"Now that nautilus has tab support most buttons can be middle-clicked to open them on a new tab: the previous, next and up buttons, the items in the places sidebar... it looks like only pathbar buttons can't be middle-clicked to open them on a new tab.

In my opinion, that would make for more coherent behaviour and should be implemented."

I think the search button should open a new tab when middle-clicked, too. More specifically, open a tab with the current folder and the search dialogue.

I just fixed the Ubuntu bug:

http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/nautilus?view=revision&revision=14427

Regarding comment 1: I am not sure about the proposed implementation. The folder has to be reloaded, which might take some time, and then we'll suddently (unexpectedly?) switch tabs. Maybe it would be better to temporarily open the search bar for the current tab, and open a new tab as the user enters a search term. On the other hand, this might be hardly discoverable.
