Crossfade back-end: sometimes plays two songs simultaneously

I am not too sure how to reproduce this exactly, but it happened already several times, that when rhythmbox switches to a new song after the previous song has finished, actually two songs start playing at the same time. Clicking twice on the Play button to stop and restart playing, fixes this issue: it continues playing only one song then. Rhythmbox 0.11.6 with the crossfade back-end
I've never seen this happen. Output from 'rhythmbox -D player' around the time that this occurs would probably be useful. It may be related to particular file types.

nope. It seems completely random to me. It started happening after I enabled crossfading to workaround issue 602957 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=602957
I still need some debug output showing the problem. Comment 7 does not provide any useful information. You need to run 'rhythmbox -D player' in a terminal *instead of* how you normally run it.
Sorry, I misunderstood. This is still happening in ubuntu 9.10, I think that it usually happens after playing some songs in MPC format, maybe gstreamer plugin that decodes mpc files is broken.

This is still happening to me on Rhythmbox 0.12.8, the one included on ubuntu lucid.
I installed ubuntu lucid from scratch, and now this doesn't happen to me. I guess that something was wrong with my user configuration, because that's the only thing that changed the version is the same. Anyway, you can mark the bug as invalid, at least until someone else can reproduce it. thanks, pura vida.
It is not related to user configuration. This also happens with an install from stratch. I guess it is related to the cross-fading option. I've enabled that one and it does happen now.

It changes it's behavior depending on the first song, if I play this song as the first one, than changing to the next song causes those two to overlap with some crunchy ticking noise in the background, but if I play different songa at first and than change to this song the only thing that is played is this crunchy noise and when you pause it the slider still moves, play buton indicates it paused and noise changes to simple sinus-like.
I should probably add that without crossfade backend it works perfectly fine ;)
As far as I know, this currently only happens when playing files that have a sample rate that is not 44.1kHz. If you can identify a specific song that causes this problem, please provide the output you get from running 'file /path/to/file.mp3' in a terminal, replacing /path/to/file.mp3 with the full path of the song.
You were right: B Complex - Beautiful Lies.mp3: Audio file with ID3 version 2.4.0, contains: MPEG ADTS, layer III, v2, 64 kbps, 22.05 kHz, JntStereo This song is of low quality, grabbed from a youtube video.
I've tried a variety of files with different sample rates and I can't reproduce this. Run 'GST_DEBUG=*:4 rhythmbox -D player 2>/tmp/rblogfile', trigger the problem (either way, shouldn't matter much), bzip2 the file and upload it as an attachment.
OK, that's a hell of a log file, over 0.5 GB uncompressed ;) It seems the limit is 1000 KB, what now?
Maybe try with 'GST_DEBUG=*:3' instead. I'll probably need more detail after that, but I can tell you what specific debug output to enable.

I haven't looked at the log in great detail, but I notice you're using the fluendo mp3 decoder rather than mad, which may have something to do with it. What happens if you remove the package that provides /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstflump3dec.so?
It also appears that there were some problems with the file file:///home/pawel/Music/Daine%20Lakaien/Deine%20Lakaien%20-%201999c-%20Kasmodiah/02%20-%20Return.MPC .. do you get similar problems with other musepack files?

Yes, sometimes there are some problems with MPC (it's first time I've seen this type of files)

The behaviour you're seeing is caused by a bug in the fluendo mp3 decoder. You can submit bug reports for this plugin here: https://core.fluendo.com/gstreamer/trac/ .. it's possible you were just using an old version of the plugin, though. If you can provide more information (full debug logs, a possibly a copy of the file) please open a separate bug for the musepack file problems.
