Description Tien Nguyen 2008-06-03 13:47:35 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Everytime I send an e-mail with na attachment, the send failed.
Here is the text inside error dialog:
=========
Error while performing operation.

DATA command failed: Connection timed out: mail not sent
---------
Only happen when I use GMAIL SMTP server.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Get an GMAIL account, enable POP/IMAP for your account
2. Set up Evolution to use GMAIL SMTP server according to GMAIL instruction
3. Try to send an e-mail with JPEG or PDF attachment. Most often, it will stuck in the Outbox forever.

Actual results:
The e-mail got stuck in the mail Outbox

Expected results:
E-mail to be sent.

Does this happen every time?
Hard to say, but I would say 50% of the time.

I had the same problem in Evolution 2.22.1 (on Ubuntu 8.04) but it has disappeared with the upgrade to 2.22.2.

Not really for me. Still happen and I can confirm that not only JPEG but any other attachment would create the problem.

I get messages in /var/log/messages. Get this message twice everytime I try and send email

After several weeks of trial and error I am able to send emails with attachments if I disable the firewall during sending of emails. I guess my next step will be to look at the default iptables configuration.

It seems to work perfectly in 2.27.5 with gmail imap.

Could you please confirm if this bug is still happening at your end ? Please try in 2.24.x / 2.26.x and report back, thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug; however, closing due to lack of
response of the reporter, sorry. if you still see this issue with a current
release of evolution (2.26.3 or later), please reopen. thanks in advance.

Sorry for taking too long. But after a long wait, I finally have decided to use web base interface and/or Thunderbird. Evolution unfortunately is not a stable system fo us to use.

Thanks,
