Description mannin44 2001-04-25 21:19:05 UTC
I don't know if this was also in straight GNOME 1.4 (i couldn't get a lot
of it to compile... which is another issue), or something Ximian messed up,
but my panels delete their launchers on restart. When it's starting up I
can see it has a few foot ("no icon") icons, with probably 30 pixels or so
between them, which then disappear one by one, as, i suppose, the panel
decides the launchers were messed up and it deletes them. And yes, my
session is being saved, all the rest of the changes to the panel remain
intact. It just nukes the launchers. BTW my version is
gnome-core-1.4.0.2-ximian.8, if anything more than 1.4.x is needed.

This seems very weird. Looks like it's not properly saving launchers
in the ~/.gnome/panel.d/default/launchers/ directory. Can you check
there and see if those things look like your launchers?

So if I understand it right, you add launchers and then by the time
you relogin the launchers disappear?

Comment 3 mannin44 2001-04-26 03:50:16 UTC
The contents of ~/.gnome/panel.d/default/launchers/ have some overlap
with my launchers, perhaps that's what I had before I deleted the
default ones from the Ximian Gnome 1.4 upgrade. They weren't touched
for a few hours before I noticed the bug (and thus added many
launchers to test it) and sent in the report, so that's quite likely.

The simplest way I made this happen is this: Create a new panel. Add a
launcher. killall panel. the panels reappear, including the new one.
However the icon for the launcher is the "no icon" foot, and within
second that disappears, leaving an empty panel. So with that evidence
and my lack of knowledge of the workings of the panel, I think if it's
a problem saving the launchers, it's saving them so that they get
removed when they're scanned upon starting panel. But my launchers
haven't been touched, so I don't know.

I just looked at bug 53700, and I added a launcher by manually filling
out the info, and it stayed. So it's something with launchers stolen
from the menus.
