In Edit -> Preferences, 'Mail preferences' part, there's a tab named "Libellés", which is the translation of 'Labels'. In this tab there are a few strings that follow the same rule.

But when you right-click on a message, you get a context menu with a sub-menu named "Étiquette" ('Label'). And in this sub-menu an item is named "Nouveau libellé". Both are translation of 'Label'.

This inconsistency should be corrected, but IMHO the best would be to use "étiquette" everywhere rather than "libellé": this the form that has been chosen in F-Spot and Tracker in GNOME (at least), and Thunderdird or Firefox. Desktop-wide consistency is very important here because labels are meant to become system-wide too, and this helps explaining this concept.

I think your proposal makes sense. I'd still like to know the opinion of Stéphane Raimbault, because AFAIR he chose the translation of Label to Libellé.

This problem has been fixed in the development version. The fix will be available in the next major software release. Thank you for your bug report.
