Description Niaz Dokrat 2008-05-06 05:42:13 UTC
I am running vnc server on a Windows XP sp2 machine and realized that you limit the password length in vinagre to only 8 characters. i am using the version that came pre-installed on ubuntu 8.04 and i was wondering if you could increase the password size to 16 chars.

The 8 character limit on passwords is a hard limit in the VNC protocol, the VNC-clients that allow more than 8 characters truncate silently to 8-characters (the servers do this as well).

There is some proprietary extensions to the protocol by RealVNC which extends the password lenght but I have never seen any details since they keep their changes secret (as far as I know).
