Description Trey Ethridge 2008-04-25 04:27:08 UTC
Please describe the problem:
The weather icon and temperature isn't displayed when the weather option is enabled. I right clicked on the clock applet and selected properties. Then I checked the weather and temperature check boxes on the general tab.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Right click on the clock applet. Select properties
2. On the general tab, check weather and temperature.
3. The icon and temperature should show up.
4. On the locations tab select a location.
5. Close the properties dialog.

Actual results:
The temperature and weather aren't displayed. I do see an icon beside the location when I left click the clock. I know that there is another bug for that issue. The location always shows the weather icon even when the weather isn't enabled.

Expected results:
The temperature and weather used to display to the left of the time in the clock applet. The temperature and weather should show up when the functionality is enabled.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
The location time should use the selected time format. It displays in UTC for some reason.

Notice that the time for Raleigh is in 24 hour clock time

The time beside Raleigh should use the same format as the clock in the panel. By the way, Raleigh is in the same time zone as the computer (EST).

nudge. I'm still seeing this error. Has anyone been about to reproduce what I'm seeing?
Comment 4 Vincent Untz 2008-05-15 08:57:11 UTC
Does it happen for all locations or just Raleigh?
Comment 5 Trey Ethridge 2008-05-15 17:28:42 UTC
I'm seeing this issue with all locations. I have tried removing all locations and adding them back, but that didn't fix the problem. I also tried removing all locations and adding a new location from another continent. That didn't fix the problem either.

Is there some way that I can reset the applet? This applet use to work fine when I first installed the development version of Ubuntu 8.04. Over time it stopped working. I believe it may have something to do with the configuration over the course of all the updates in development.

I'd like to confirm that the weather and temperature should show up to the left of the time in the main panel when weather is enabled. Could you confirm this?

This bug is extremely similar to bug :
        http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537912

One of them should probably be closed out.
Comment 9 Braden 2009-06-21 16:10:58 UTC
Conspicuously (to someone looking for it) missing from your second screen shot is the "home" icon next to the Raleigh entry beneath the map. If you move the mouse over that entry, a "Set" button should appear. Click it and I suspect this will start working.

This bit of UI is way too obscure. The "Set" button should not be invisible until you move the mouse over the menu entry.

I have this same issue. The home icon isn't even clickable for me.

Clock and gweather

As you can see, there's no weather. It shows the location, but no weather. I suspect a further bug in gweather, and have not been able to find it anywhere; that being that the forecast for location KCVS ICAO code hasn't worked for over the last year and a half, neither in the clock applet, or the panel applet.
Comment 12 dedanna1029 2010-10-08 15:36:06 UTC
It has been this way for over the last year and a half with each distribution I've run, and each location I've run. It appears there's no fix in sight; are there plans for this? I really need it.

Thanks.

Do you know another station that could be used?
Comment 14 dedanna1029 2010-11-02 03:27:06 UTC
I wish to god I did. I live in a rural area; the two I *had* been using were for Clovis Municipal Airport and Cannon Air Force Base / Clovis. I don't know what ICAO code is being used for them currently in gweather, but it's not working whatever it is. The ICAO code is KCVS, but the thing is, the air base has been through so many changes in Clovis, that it could be anyone's guess as to what it truly should be.

I could try calling tomorrow to find out - I do know there is a weather station here in Portales. More info can be obtained on that probably from the gentleman who runs http://www.portalesweather.net/

I live in Portales, but there had never been a weather station for us that I knew of until now (we're located 20 miles outside of Clovis).

I'm enclosing a screen shot of the forecast that the weather applet in Gnome has been stuck on for probably the last year and a half - I'm thinking Spring '09. It hasn't moved, yet the temperature remains stable and accurate. I'm set to Clovis Municipal Airport with it.

Weather forecast from Gnome-weather applet

It's been stuck on this for the last 18 months at least - the forecast has not updated at all since then in any distro.

I'm posting this purely for your interest - things are certainly messed up for this area both in the clock and in the applet.
Comment 17 André Klapper 2020-11-06 20:19:56 UTC
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
