GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 529783
Unable to drag F-Spot window across vertically stacked extended desktop
Last modified: 2009-04-28 09:35:40 UTC
Please describe the problem: I have a dual-screen setup with an external monitor (Samsung 215TW, 1680x1050) positioned above my laptop's screen (1024x768) for a combined desktop area of 1680x1818. I did not test this with horizontally arranged screens. I am unable to drag F-Spot entirely into the lower monitor (it stops at the title bar, but most of the window is happy to jump to the other screen). I am able to get F-Spot to the other monitor using alt-space-m, then using the arrow keys to reposition it. I am able to then drag it back up to the upper monitor using the mouse, but not back down again. I first suspected that this was because the lower gnome-panel was positioned at the bottom of the upper screen, but even after moving it to the lower screen, f-spot is still unable to be dragged to the lower screen. Steps to reproduce: 1. setup dual screens so it is an extended desktop with one screen above the other (I used the command: "xrandr --output LVDS --pos 328x1050" ) 2. click and drag the titlebar of f-spot, and try to drag it to the lower screen (or if it's already there, to the upper and back down again) 3. verify that it can be positioned in the lower screen using keyboard commands to move the window (alt-space, m, then arrow-keys) Actual results: the f-spot window will stop moving down when the title bar reaches the bottom of the upper window Expected results: the f-spot window should freely move from one monitor to the other Does this happen every time? yes Other information:
you're using compiz, right ?
yep, sorry i forgot to mention that. Also, it is Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron.
This is very unlikely to be f-spot cause. Is f-spot the only affected application ?

Sorry for the lack of updated information. I was without my second monitor for a few months. F-Spot was the only affected application that I was aware of (I had no problem moving firefox, pidgin, terminal windows, etc). I did not specifically check another Mono app, like Tomboy, so I'm not sure if that was part of the problem. However, as of Ubuntu Jaunty Alpha 6, running compiz, I do not have the problem. Perhaps it has been solved upstream.
Michael, it works fine here with dual screens oarranged vertically. Happy to see it's fixed for you too.
