Description Sven Arvidsson 2008-04-13 13:29:41 UTC
[ From http://bugs.debian.org/377478 ]

gdmphotosetup doesn't provide a way to reset the photo back to the default one. This is in contrast to the "About Me" dialog, which provides a "No Image" button in the file chooser.

Since GDM is being rewritten for GNOME 2.22, I'm not sure it is important to invest a lot of time further enhancing GDM 2.20 - especially since the About Me preferences is a better way to set your photo.

You can obviously remove the face image by hand by removing the file that contains the image. Section 2.9 of the GDM Overview explains what files it uses for storing the face image.

http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/docs/2.20/overview.html#facebrowser

This is obviously not a solution, but a workaround for anybody who needs to know how to remove their face using the existing code.

I'd accept a patch to fix gdmphotosetup to have a button which would do this more simply if someone wanted to do the work.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
However, you are using a version that is too old and not supported anymore. GNOME developers are no longer working on that version, so unfortunately there will not be any bug fixes for the version that you use.

By upgrading to a newer version of GNOME you could receive bug fixes and new functionality. You may need to upgrade your Linux distribution to obtain a newer version of GNOME.
Please feel free to reopen this bug if the problem still occurs with a newer version of GNOME.
