It would allow user to iterate over all items smoothly.
By analogy, pressing <- in the first column should move to the previous row.

Thanks for your bug report!

If I remember correctly, this change was discussed some years ago. It was decided that it is confusing for visually impaired people.

I just committed a change to trunk (i.e. GNOME 2.23), which implements the requested behavior:

It is only used if accessibility is disabled. Closing as FIXED.
