GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 524668
Needs gstreamer-properties
Last modified: 2008-03-28 12:23:32 UTC
Please describe the problem: Cheese requires the user to know about, and configure, the gstreamer-properties control panel. It fails silently when no webcam has been chosen in gstreamer-properties. gstreamer-properties isn't even in any of the menus in Ubuntu Hardy, so the user must use the command line. Cheese should use the default webcam but should allow the user to choose one if none is configured by default, or if he wants to use a different one. Steps to reproduce: Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? Other information:
we actually do that. we use v4lsrc/v4l2src directly and do our probing ourselves. so actually i dont know if you even need gstreamer-properties?
This is duplicate of bug 522200 We simply need a preference dialog and this will be solved *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 522200 ***

Are you saying that that should make no difference to cheese? And a simple probe would not allow me to choose between two webcams (though that would be unusual).
yeah. we are not relying on gstreamer-properties. but maybe your gstreamer installation has to be initialized somehow? for now, it is already possible to change the device in gconf. we want to add a preference dialog for 2.24
