GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 524020
Empty Trash dialogs are not consistent (nautilus/trash applet)
Last modified: 2008-09-01 11:00:36 UTC
When selecting "Empty Trash" by right-clicking on the Trash Applet, the answers to the question "Empty all of the items from the trash?" are: "Cancel" and "Empty Trash" When clicking on "Empty Trash" from within Nautilus, the answers to the same question are: "Cancel" and "Delete". I find "Delete" confusing in this context, and, in any case, I think the options should be the same in both instances, since the question and the explanation are the same. Also, "of the" in ""Empty all OF THE items from the trash?" seems redundant to me, but I'm not a native speaker, so I can't tell with any certainty. Other information:
Thanks for your bug report! Unfortunately, we cannot change user-visible strings in stable releases. However, we will definitly consider the proposed changes for Nautilus 2.24.

Also note that the edit menu and right click menu for an item in the Trash now have "Delete from Trash". The dialog this generates uses "delete" a number of times and uses the "stock" delete button. Maybe this should be something like "Clear from Trash" (on both the menus and the button). That could help (a bit) in understanding the deference between: - 0) moving items to trash; 1) emptying trash or clearing items from trash; - 0) deleting items right away.

I just renamed the buttons to "Empty Trash" for the dialog: http://svn.gnome.org/viewvc/nautilus?view=revision&revision=14556 Paul: > Maybe this should be something like "Clear from Trash" (on both the menus and > the button). That could help (a bit) in understanding the difference between: I don't think this is important, because only experienced users will use the deletion feature, and emptying a trash bin is a very pictographic description. Closing.
