Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, that stack trace is missing some elements that will help a lot to solve the problem, so it will be hard for the developers to fix that crash. Can you get us a stack trace with debugging symbols? Please see http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information on how to do so and reopen this bug or report a new one. Thanks in advance!
here is the data from the crash after Iinstalling the totem-dbg package I hope this helps Distribution: Debian lenny/sid Gnome Release: 2.20.3 2008-01-12 (Debian) BugBuddy Version: 2.20.1 System: Linux 2.6.22-3-k7 #1 SMP Sun Feb 10 21:04:14 UTC 2008 i686 X Vendor: The X.Org Foundation X Vendor Release: 10300000 Selinux: No Accessibility: Disabled GTK+ Theme: Clearlooks Icon Theme: gnome Memory status: size: 37277696 vsize: 37277696 resident: 22720512 share: 11264000 rss: 22720512 rss_rlim: 4294967295 CPU usage: start_time: 1204149603 rtime: 41 utime: 39 stime: 2 cutime:0 cstime: 0 timeout: 0 it_real_value: 0 frequency: 100 Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/totem' Using host libthread_db library "/lib/libthread_db.so.1". If you're using totem-gstreamer could you install the gstreamer debug packages and reproduce the stack trace please? If you're using totem-xine, could you instead install the xine debug packages? Thanks.
here is the info I got after installing the gstreamer dubug packages. I hope this helps. > Could not initialize GStreamer: Error re-scanning reg > *** Gnome Registry Session: yes. Looks like a corrupted GStreamer registry. Let's see what the GStreamer people say.
"Error re-scanning registry: ..." usually happens when it can't load one of the plugins for some reason. It should give you the reason there, but it looks like that part of the output is missing. Still, the debug traces are not useful at all I'm afraid. If you can still reproduce this, maybe you could run it like this from a terminal: $ GST_DEBUG=*:5 totem 2>dbg.log ... wait for the crash ... $ gzip dbg.log and attach the dbg.log file?
