Description Jose M. daLuz 2008-02-27 05:15:06 UTC
I have Firefox as my default browser. If I drag a link onto the desktop, then click on it, it opens in Epiphany instead of Firefox.

An example file:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Link to Obama, Clinton Debate Tactics - washingtonpost.com
Type=Link
URL=http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/26/AR2008022603715.html
Icon=gnome-fs-bookmark

In nautilus 2.20.x and earlier this type of file opened in the default browser.

This could be related with:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=537563

Seems that html files are handled like a normal file. I would expect that default web browser was used instead of last installed application that blames to handle text/html files. I know that maybe some people would like to open these files with a text editor, but I think that common users would prefer to open them with default web browser.

Maybe an option could be open html local files with web-browser by default allowing users to open it with other app if they want by right clicking on file.

This still happens with nautilus 2.23.6.1.
Comment 3 Cosimo Cecchi 2012-05-21 19:56:18 UTC
I think this was a side effect of different parts of the system using different VFS subsystems (i.e. gnome-vfs and GIO) during the GIO transition period.
Should be fixed with 3.0 and a recent distribution - please reopen if it's not the case.
