Description Matt Kraai 2008-02-25 22:02:59 UTC
Please describe the problem:
When I try to sign up for a GNOME Blogs account so that I can comment on a post, an error is displayed that says

Sorry, that email address is not allowed!

Steps to reproduce:
1. Visit http://blogs.gnome.org/wp-signup.php.
2. Type kraai into the username field, mkraai@beckman.com into the email address field, and select the "Just a username, please." radio button.
3. Press the "Next >>" button.

Actual results:
I'm taken to the same page, the email address field is highlighted in red, and an error message is displayed that says "Sorry, that email address is not allowed!".

Expected results:
It would create an account.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

This is intentional -- you must register with a gnome.org, gtk.org or gimp.org email address. The signup page doesn't currently say that, but I'm waiting on the next release before doing that (such that it's done in a maintainable fashion).

I was afraid that was the case. Is this because once someone creates an account, they could then create a blog?

Yeah, though it wasn't immediately obvious that it would impact both user accounts and blogs, and surprisingly, no one has raised it before! I'll see what I can do about that. :-)

Thanks, that'd be great!

Given that a new version of Wordpress µ was installed eight months ago <http://blogs.gnome.org/blog/2008/09/21/upgraded-to-wordpress-mu-262/>, six months after waiting for the next release, any progress here? :)
