GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 517925
Screen should not turn on if lid is closed
Last modified: 2012-03-23 09:32:47 UTC
Reported downstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/44686 My laptop (a Dell Inspiron 6000) has multimedia buttons on the front that can be used when the lid is closed. My g-p-m settings are to blank the screen when the lid is closed. However, when I press the button (e.g. the volume) with the lid closed, I can see the screen turn back on inside the laptop. What's worse is that it never turns back off after that, even after the customary screensaver delay. Another bug reports the same behavior when moving an external mouse. Steps to reproduce: 1. Set g-p-m to blank the screen with the lid closed. 2. Close the lid; the screen turns off. 3. Press a multimedia button, move an external mouse, etc. 4. Wait for the screensaver to turn on and/or the screen to turn off; no response.
There really isn't a good way to tell DPMS to really stay off (last I checked). Moving this to gnome-power-manager since that's where we do DPMS stuff...
Yes, we can get DPMS without polling with the new X extension that is being proposed. I'll switch g-p-m to use that when it appears.
Hello, I just want to confirm the bug on my Dell Inspiron 6000 (what a coincidence!) with an external mouse and with the multimedia keys, on Ubuntu Intrepid. Hope the bugfix will come soon :)
