GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 512164
[Regression] Tracker applet isn't focused when opened
Last modified: 2020-11-06 20:09:03 UTC
This bug was reported at https://launchpad.net/bugs/176892 This is a regression from Metacity 2.20.x The tracker applet (which is a bit similar to the network-manager applet) isn't focused anymore when you open it, although it was with metacity 2.20.x. (downgrading only metacity fixes it). This means you can't start typing a search term and click enter to search for it, since the applet isn't focused (if it was, the search entry would have the cursor focus). It also means if you open it and then click outside it the applet won't be closed, although if you open it, click inside it so it gets focused, and then click outside it (e.g. in the desktop) it will disappear (similar to what happens with network-manager).
Sorry to be slow here, but what's the name of the executable of the tracker applet? I don't seem to have anything on the "add applets" dialogue of this machine (running gutsy) that looks like it would be called that in English. Does this exist only in hardy? I'll upgrade if necessary.
It's actually a notification-area thingy. It's at /usr/bin/tracker-applet on hardy.
Unfortunately with tracker 0.6.6 tracker-applet no longer opens a 'window' as network-manager. It instead calls tracker-search-tool. So you will need tracker 0.6.4 in order to test it. We could say this is irrelevant for tracker as this functionality is no longer present, but the regression may still be there.
bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all old bug reports in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years. If you can still reproduce this issue in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/metacity/-/issues/ Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
