GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 509804
Turning off capslock in gnome-keyboard-properties doesn't turn off the LED
Last modified: 2008-05-12 10:28:06 UTC
(Originally filed at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=428901) In gnome-keyboard-properties, under 'Layout Options', there is: Ctrl key position [ ] Make CapsLock an additional Ctrl This would appear to be analagous to the old 'Options "XkbOptions" "ctrl:nocaps"' in xorg.conf. And if I set it, it behaves the same with one big exception: the capslock LED still toggles whenever I hit the key, even though it acts as 'Ctrl'. Setting the option in xorg.conf causes the LED to not trigger. control-center-2.21.4 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.4.99.1-0.15.20080107 xorg-x11-drv-keyboard-1.2.2
I have similar problem with "Swap ESC and CapsLock" options in newest Ubuntu Hardy (1.4.2008). Esc and Capslock are swapped correctly, but the LED reacts on capslock key not on Esc (now capslock). # lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu hardy (development branch) Release: 8.04 # LANG="en_EN" apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.3+10ubuntu7 Candidate: 1:7.3+10ubuntu7 Version table: *** 1:7.3+10ubuntu7 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status # LANG="en_EN" apt-cache policy gnome-control-center gnome-control-center: Installed: 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3 Candidate: 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3 Version table: *** 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
AFAIK it is broken indicator handling in the latest Xorg. It was reported many times (and hopefully already fixed).
